Cavity and limit

Cavity and limit is a book that shows a clear determination to investigate architecture through a specific area of research, that of the limit and its corrosion, of cavity. The book analyzes the built form through two different ideas of making architecture, that of tectonics and that of stereotomic, through the archetypes of the hut and the cavern. The limit and its gradual reduction to simple element of technology and media is investigated; an element now deprived of its strength of matter and space. The author wonders if today it is still possible to defend the thickness, along with concepts such as ground, matter, mass, hollow, shadow, light, space. The book is enriched by a profound reflection on the theme within the preface of Alberto Campo Baeza, that the spanish architect wanted, with enormous generosity, donate.

Francesco Iodice (Aversa 1976). He carries out didactic and research activity in Aversa at the Department of Cultura del Progetto of the Faculty of Architecture Luigi Vanvitelli. Founds in 2000, together with Giuseppe Iodice, the studio iodicearchitetti. Awards | 1st prize for the international design competition "Better city, better life" for the Italian Pavilion at the World Expo Shanghai 2010; work completed. – 1st prize for the competition Green 360 for the construction of a luxury residential complex in Lima, Peru; work in progress. – 1st prize for the international design competition for the design of Bao'an District in Shenzhen, China. – He wins the prestigious award Europe40under40, as young talent, promoted by the European Centre Art Design and Urban Studies and the Chicago Athenaeum. – In 2011 is published the monograph "iodicearchitetti 2000-2010" by Mario Pisani, Edition Libria, Italy. – In 2014 is selected together with other 8 Italian rms in the book “Abitare la città contemporanea” by Franco Purini and Gaetano Fusco, Edition Aion, Italy.
