The volume is structured into three sections that outline theoretical, experimental, and discursive frameworks, where research and design practice converge to redefine the relationship between construction and the environment. The first section provides an international research perspective, in which theoretical and applied approaches share knowledge to explore innovative solutions. This is followed by an experimental research section, acting as a bridge between theory and practice, discussing the work of international design studios (Carlo Ratti Associati, Felixx, MVRDV, LAND, PININFARINA, SLA): from architectural detail to public space design, from green and blue infrastructure to adaptation and mitigation strategies. The dialogue between researchers and practitioners, in a dynamic and personal exchange on climate emergencies and new ways of conceiving architecture design, offers theoretical and methodological reflections shaped by years of study. In the Lessons Learned section, experimental practices and research experiences highlight the need for a renewed architecture and urban designer figure capable of adopting a regenerative, nature-positive, and multi-species approach to the project. Such an approach seeks to restore a vital equilibrium between humans and the environment, paving the way for an innovative, transformative, shared future.

Maicol Negrello. Architect, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Architecture at the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD), Politecnico di Torino. Visiting Researcher at ETSAB – UPC Barcelona and TU Delft. He pursues research encompassing regenerative urban design, architecture for climate adaptation, and the coexistence of humans and nature. He is an Invited Professor at IED Torino and Scientific Coordinator of the International Winter School with EMILA – UPC and the intensive PhD course at TU Delft. He also serves as Vice-President of the OrtiAlti association, advocating urban regeneration through nature-based and co-design approaches incorporating interspecies design. Among his key publications are Surviving the City. Nature as an Architecture Design Strategy for a More Resilient Urban Ecosystem, co-authored with R. Ingaramo, and Designing with Nature Climate-Resilient Cities: A Lesson from Copenhagen, both published by Springer. He has also won international competitions, including Europan 17 in Sweden and Norway, in partnership with Collettivo Selvaticus, the independent architecture collective he co-founded.
